Purpose

Longhorn Energy seeks to leverage the world-class academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular energy opportunities at UT for the betterment of all members of the UT community. In particular, the aim of this organization shall be to build community and collaboration between students at UT, support energy-related activities and events, and to aid members in pursuit of energy careers.

Khushboo Agarwal

Khushboo is originally from India and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s in geology from Pune. After her Master’s, she worked in the catastrophe risk modeling industry for four years. In 2021, she decided to get a second master’s degree and joined the MS in Energy and Earth Resources program at Jackson School of Geosciences. She is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC). Her research focuses on modeling electric grid vulnerability induced by natural events using machine learning and TACC HPC. Her research interests include energy-water nexus, water sustainability, energy & water policy, and data analytics. She is a Texas Entrepreneurship Exchange for Energy (TEX-E) fellow with Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship at MIT and Greentown Labs, Houston. Outside of school, she loves to spend time outdoors, travel to new places, and make friends.

Debjyoti Chatterjee

Debjyoti is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He is part of the Power Electronics and Systems Group, advised by Dr. Brian Johnson. His research interests include grid-forming inverter modeling and control, and power electronic interfaces for renewable integration. Debjyoti is actively working towards grid modernization, decarbonization, and energy innovation. He is a recipient of the Charles M. Simmons Endowed Presidential Fellowship in Engineering awarded by the Cockrell School of Engineering, UT Austin. He has also served as the Vice-President of research for the Longhorn Energy Club for the academic year 2022-2023.

Benjamin Stormer

Benjamin Stormer is an undergraduate student entering his Senior year in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering. A native of the Texas Panhandle, Benjamin has been aware of the influence of the energy industry his whole life, and grew up seeing the positive impacts of wind farms on his community. As an active LEC officer for over 3 years, Benjamin has been exposed to many aspects of the energy industry, including finance, entrepreneurship, engineering, and others. His primary interest lies in how computational engineering can be used to make energy usage smarter, greener, and more equitable for all.

Avish Thakral

Avish is a graduate student in the Energy and Earth Resources program at the Jackson School of Geosciences. He did his undergrad at IIT Roorkee in India and carries an overall varied experience of 7+ years in the real estate and renewable energy industry. He is working as a Graduate Research Assistant with the Center for Solar Powered Future (SPF 2050) and RESET lab at UT. He is also a TEX-E fellow with Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship at MIT & Greentown Labs, Houston. For his thesis research work, he is working on a real option financial analysis of an alternate tax credit mechanism based on incentivizing emissions offset from renewables. He is passionate about working towards solving environmental and climate change challenges using data science, finance, and technology as key tools.

Alessandro Supriyatno

Alessandro is a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Sustainable Energy and a certificate in Humanitarian Engineering. He is also one of the executive officers of the Engineers for a Sustainable World organization, and was involved in numerous student-led projects on campus. Alessandro is passionate about the clean energy technologies that will lead us into a more sustainable, equitable, and carbon-neutral world. After graduation, he plans on pursuing a Master’s at UT in Civil Engineering with a focus on Sustainable Systems.

Chinemerem Okezie

Chinemerem Okezie is an Energy and Earth Resources Master's Student interested in leveraging clean energy technologies to provide solutions to climate issues. He's also a Graduate Research Assistant at the Gulf Coast Carbon Center, where his current research is focused on Carbon Capture and Storage Technology. He earned a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering and has about three years of working experience in Technology Consulting. Outside of school, Chinemerem loves listening to podcasts and participating in sporting activities, especially Tennis and Soccer.

Jonathan Naoukin

Jonathan Naoukin is a 2nd Year B.S. Mathematics major interested in Applied/Computational Math and Entrepreneurship. He is also a TEX-E Fellow working in the Cleantech space.
