Our club has been hosting events for over 20 years. Here is a sample of the events that we have hosted since 2024.

  • Our club launched its largest event ever at the Texas Science & Natural History Museum! We were joined by Zaki Alattar from Intertrust Energy, an energy interoperability start-up based in Berkeley, CA, for a keynote talk on data security involving distributed energy assets. We also heard from a range of energy innovators from across Texas, including: George Rute, CEO of Gridraven; Sean Voight, Founder and CEO of Energy Innovation Hub TX; Yolanda Norma, Partnerships Director at TEX-E; Will Glazener, Co-Founder and COO of Terralytiq; Darshan Sachde, Senior Engineer at Trimeric Corporation; Saurav Chatterjee, Executive at Dastur Energy; Saeed Daneshvar-Dehnavi, Founder & CEO of SD Renewables; Jared Cuneo, Chief Engineering Officer at Premier Production Equipment / Nautex Energy.

  • The LEC hosted its inaugural cross-disciplinary dialogue on energy, environment, and law. Indigo Keener, a senior geoscience undergraduate at UT Austin, presented for the first-ever Texas-to-X Student Speaker Series a talk on Lithium deposits around the world and the viability of their extraction.

    Next, we heard from a distinguished panel spanning across energy education, law, and public policy including Roger Borgelt, Attorney at Borgelt Law; John McFarland, Attorney at GDHM; Melinda Taylor, Professor at UT Law School; Barry Smitherman, Former Chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission; Jim Walker, Director of Sustainability at UT Austin; Calvin Clary, Agriculture Director at Austin ISD; Darien Clary, Sustainability Director at Austin ISD; Adrian Shelley, Director at Texas Office of Public Citizen; Zach Baumer, Director at Sustainability Office of the City of Austin; Ramiro Garcia, Internship Director at Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

  • Our club heard from Ryan Kudva, Unconventional Technologies Lead at ExxonMobil, on interview strategies for energy careers.

  • For the first general meeting of Fall 2025, the LEC hosted Trimeric Corporation for a discussion on engineering services and consulting, specifically on energy applications in process engineering.

  • In Spring 2025, the LEC hosted Fervo Energy, a leading geothermal start-up, for a panel on Fervo’s technology for geothermal heat extraction.

  • The LEC heard from HDR on designing and building tomorrow’s electricity grid. With decades of experience in infrastructure, HDR discussed the challenges in getting real steel into the ground, integrated renewables, and expanding transmission.

  • The LEC heard from Chris Matos at Google on Google’s energy regulatory initiatives. He discussed a path to power data centers while meeting carbon-free energy goals.

  • The LEC heard from Zealan Hoover, Senior Advisor to the EPA Administrator under the Biden Administration, on the long-term goals of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act in a fireside chat.

  • The LEC heard from engineers at Base Power, a grid-scale battery start-up based in Austin, Texas, on their career opportunities and growth challenges as a start-up.

  • The LEC hosted Lucid Motors, a California-based luxury EV company, on their manufacturing processes and supply chain.
